Who this covers
This policy covers bukmuk.com and the messages we send you by email and WhatsApp (together, “our services”). When we say “we” or “Bukmuk”, we mean the Bukmuk children’s library.
Accounts are for parents
A Bukmuk account is created and run by a parent or guardian, who must be an adult. Children use the library through their parent’s account. They do not sign up or pay on their own.
To suggest the right books, we ask the parent for their child’s age and reading interests. A parent may also add a child’s first name or a photo to their profile. This is optional. Please only share what you are happy for us to keep.
What we collect
What you tell us
- Your account: your name, email address, mobile number and password. We never store your password as you typed it, only a scrambled (hashed) form of it.
- Where to bring the books: your delivery address, city and state.
- Your child’s reading: their age and interests, and any first name or photo you choose to add.
- Gifts: when you gift a plan, the names, email addresses and mobile numbers of the sender and the person receiving it.
- Talking to us: anything you tell us when you email or WhatsApp our team, or answer a survey.
What we keep as you use the library
- Your reading history: the books you borrow and return, and the ratings you give them.
- Your plan and payments: which plan you are on, when it runs, and what you paid. Payments are handled by Razorpay. We do not see or store your card or UPI details.
- Credits and referrals: your referral code, the friends who joined with it, and the credit you earn and use.
What your browser tells us
Like most websites, we automatically receive some basic details when you visit, such as your browser and device type, the pages you look at and the site that sent you to us.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and your browser’s local storage for two things:
- Keeping you logged in: when you log in, your browser stores a login token so you stay logged in as you move around the site. The site also remembers small things, like a payment that is still being confirmed. Without this, logging in would not work.
- Understanding visits: we use Google Tag Manager to load analytics and advertising tools, such as Google Analytics and Meta’s pixel. They set cookies that help us see how many people visit, which pages help, and how our ads are doing.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. If you block them, browsing still works, but logging in and paying may not.
How we use your information
- To run your account and your plan, and to take payments.
- To deliver books to your door and collect the ones your child has finished.
- To suggest books that suit your child’s age and interests.
- To send you emails and WhatsApp messages about your deliveries, renewals and your child’s reading reports.
- To tell you about new books and offers. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
- To keep track of referral credit, and to let the person you gift a plan know it is waiting for them.
- To answer your questions, fix problems, prevent fraud, and make the site better.
- To meet our legal duties.
Our Top readers board
Our Top readers board cheers on the families reading the most. It shows a first name, city and the number of books read. If you would rather not appear, you can hide yourself from the board on that page.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share only what is needed with the people who help us run the library: Razorpay for payments, our delivery team so the books reach you, the services we use to send emails and WhatsApp messages and to host the site, and the analytics tools described above. When you gift a plan, we email the person receiving it so they can start it. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you use Bukmuk, and after that only as long as we need it to settle payments, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and follow the law.
Keeping it safe
We use reasonable security methods to protect the information on our servers. No system is completely secure, so we cannot promise that information will never be lost or seen by someone it should not be. If we learn of a security problem that affects you, we will try to let you know by email or on the site.
Other websites
Our site links to other websites, like Razorpay when you pay or WhatsApp when you message us. They have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they collect or use information.
Your rights and contact
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can change most of it yourself in My account. For anything else, write to us at helpdesk@bukmuk.com or message us on WhatsApp at +91 81302 86286. We handle these requests under applicable Indian law. If we delete your account, we may still need to keep some records, such as payments, where the law asks us to.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Bukmuk after a change, it means you accept the updated policy.
